Christie Angel was appointed to serve as Mayor Michel B. Coleman’s Deputy Chief of Staff and Director of External Affairs & Services in January 2012. In this role, Ms. Angel leads the mayor’s external affairs office, serves as the city’s chief government relations officer, and manages relationships with business and community partners. Ms. Angel brings extensive knowledge and experience in local government, legislative affairs, and community relations to city government.
Previously, Ms. Angel served as a Vice President with the government relations firm, Sean P. Dunn & Associates. She was responsible for all aspects of client representation working with corporate, government, and non-profit businesses to advance their government and community relations goals.
Ms. Angel has held positions in both the public and private sector, including Director of External and Government Affairs for AT&T and legislative aide to Coleman when he served on Columbus City Council. In 2007, Ms. Angel was appointed by then Governor Ted Strickland to serve as the business representative to nominate individuals to the Ohio Public Utilities Commission; and in 2009 Mayor Coleman appointed Ms. Angel to chair the selection of the city’s 31st police chief.
An active community volunteer, Ms. Angel has served on many community boards and commissions. Currently, she serves on the boards of directors of Columbus 2016, The Greater Columbus Arts Council, The River South Authority, and The Women’s Fund of Central Ohio. She is member of the WELD Advisory Council and the Columbus Chapter of The Links, Incorporated. She is a past chair of 200Columbus – the Bicentennial and the YWCA Columbus and is a Leadership Columbus graduate.
Ms. Angel has been named a 2015 YWCA Woman of Achievement. She is a past recipient of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus Corporate Roundtable Award for leadership, the St. Francis DeSales High School Forest “Treeze” Sharrock Alumni Award for community service, and was installed in the Leadership Columbus Hall of Fame in 2013. She received her Bachelor of Science in Communications and MBA from Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio. She and her husband Otto Beatty, III reside in German Village.
